"All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23
From the book of Genesis, we discover that God intended great things for humanity. We were created to be in loving union with God and one another.
Adam and Eve walked freely in the Garden of Eden, without shame or sin. They conversed with God.
But then, Adam and Eve, representing humanity, turned away from God and went their own way.
We do the same thing every day. But God who loves us so much wants nothing more than to be close to us always and knows that we often find ourselves lead away from Him.
Being "weak and in need of a savior" goes beyond an emotional feeling of meekness, weakness, or helplessness, although sometimes we feel this way and that leads us closer to God.
“Being weak and in need of a savior” is more about our active choices than it is our own emotional feelings of helplessness.
Our need for God to come and save us comes out of our own sinfulness, our own ability to miss the mark.
Because we sin and have sinned, we cannot get to Heaven on our own, we need God. We depend on God for everything we have. We ask for God’s help.
God, I know that you want more for me.
I need your help to be the best version of myself, the person you created me to be.
I want to be a good friend, a good son or daughter, a good athlete, a good artist, etc.
I want to be everything that you want for me, but sometimes it is just so easy to settle for less.
I often feel a hole in my heart and have sought to fill it with distractions.
My heart aches for unconditional love, meaning, wholeness, peace, and strength; that I know come from you.
Lord help me to trust and depend on you more.
1. What are some ways you have missed the mark?
2. What are some struggles you are having right now?
3. How have you noticed your need for a savior?
