“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” Mark 6: 31
We believe retreats, a period of time away from daily life, serve as an important aspect of comprehensive adult faith formation. Retreats vary in length, content, and place, but should always provide the space to encounter Jesus through prayer, scripture, and silence (witness talks and fellowship are integral to some retreat experiences). The Archdiocese of Dubuque offers parish based retreats, which focus on forming disciples, provide community building experiences, and lead to for further adult formation, primarily through small faith-sharing groups. All retreats, of course, depend on the presence of the Holy Spirit, as well as men and women who are open to the Spirit’s movement. Jesus beckons us to come away with Him.
CEW is a renewal weekend for adults, designed to enable them to more deeply “experience” themselves and their relationship to God and the Christian community. The weekend begins on Friday evening and concludes on Sunday afternoon. CEW may be offered by a parish/cluster, and may also reach out to the entire community.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many CEW/Emmaus weekend sites have made the difficult decision to postpone their retreats until the 2021-2022 season. Please refer to the link above for the list of sites and contact information.
