1. Recognize the Eucharist (Mass) as the most important celebration of our Catholic Faith Community.
2. Know Jesus gave us the Eucharist at the Last Supper.
3. Know that bread/wine are changed into the Body/Blood of Jesus.
4. Know that Eucharist means “to give thanks.”
Grades 3-5
1. Understand the Eucharist (Mass) as the most important celebration of our Catholic Faith Community.
2. Know that Eucharist is the memorial and making present of Christ’s Passover.
3. Know that through the power of the Holy Spirit, the bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood of Jesus, and that Jesus is truly present.
4. Know that the effect of the Eucharist is to build up the Body of Christ, the Church.
5. Know the proper etiquette and appropriate disposition for receiving Eucharist.
Grades 6-8
1. Understand the centrality of the Eucharist (Mass) to the life of the Church.
2. Understand that Eucharist is the memorial and making present of Christ’s Passover, the work of salvation accomplished by the life, death and resurrection of Christ.
3. Know that the Church teaches that the Eucharist is a: a) Celebration b) Thanksgiving c) Sacrifice d) Memorial e) Paschal banquet.
4. Know and believe that through the power of the Holy Spirit, the bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood of Jesus, and that Jesus is truly present.
5. Understand that the Eucharist is given to build up the Body of Christ, the Church.
6. Be familiar with the Biblical and historical origins of the celebration of the Eucharist in the Church.
7. Understand the proper etiquette and appropriate disposition for receiving Eucharist.
