K-Grade 2
1. Understand that we can pray alone or together.
2. Know there are traditional/vocal prayers, e.g. The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Act of Contrition.
3. Know that The Lord’s Prayer (Our Father) is given to us from Jesus.
4. Know there are liturgical prayers (Mass) and devotional prayer (Rosary).
5. Understand that prayer should be a part of each day.
Grades 3-5
1. Know that the three expressions of prayer are vocal prayer, meditation and contemplative prayer.
2. Know the importance of liturgical prayer such as Mass and Liturgy of the Hours (morning/evening prayers).
3. Know and experience devotional prayer such as seasonal customs (Advent Wreath, Way of the Cross, litanies, Rosary/Marian).
4. Know that The Lord’s Prayer is the model prayer given to us by Jesus.
5. Understand that Faith Formation is not just another class or academic subject, but is a lifelong journey.
Grades 6-8
1. Understand that the three major expressions of prayer are vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplative prayer, and examples of each.
2. Know the importance of liturgical prayer such as Mass and Liturgy of the Hours (morning/evening prayers) and the historical development of each.
3. Understand the importance of devotional prayer such as seasonal customs (Advent Wreath, Way of the Cross), litanies, Rosary/Marian devotions), etc.
4. Understand that Faith Formation is not just another class or academic subject, but is a lifelong journey.
6. Know that there are different traditions of Catholic Christian Spirituality, e.g. Benedictine, (St. Benedict), Ignatian (St. Ignatius of Loyola), Franciscan (St. Francis), Carmelite (St. Theresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. Theresa of Lisieux).
