Worship at Holy Mass is by its nature a communal form of worship, where individuals are gathered together into an assembly, a congregation.
Those individuals are bound together by their common faith and purpose: to offer worship to God the Father, through God the Son, and in God the Holy Spirit.
One way we express this collective worship is by singing together. To promote singing, those who plan music should choose hymns that all can easily sing. The people for their part should open their hymnals and their mouths to sing praise of God.
This is part of a series on how to worship at Holy Mass by Archbishop Jackels. The name comes from the "4 H's" of the 2nd Mission Priority: Enhancing the Sunday assembly for Holy Mass. This series was published between February and December of 2017.
