“Spiritual direction [is] help given by one believer to another that enables the latter to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating to God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship.” - Barry & Connolly, The Practice of Spiritual Direction, p. 8
“Spiritual direction is a participation in the work of the Holy Spirit that allows directees to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit in a personal way.” - Acklin & Hicks,
Spiritual Direction: A Guide for Sharing the Father’s Love, p. 3
Spiritual direction is for each person who has a hunger for holiness and a desire for a closer relationship with God. A spiritual director is a man or woman, ordained or lay, who is trained and holds a certificate or degree in spiritual direction. Spiritual direction focuses on the prayer life of the directee and how God is working in the individual. Sessions are typically one-on-one and often take place monthly.
